FOR GREGORY. He was not a VICTIM of ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, he was a HERO!

PLEASE NOTE: Even though this blog is now dormant there are many useful, insightful posts. Scroll back from the end or forward from the beginning. Also, check out my writer's blog. Gregory Lee Maire, RIP, October 4, 2015, 12:04 PM

Today at 12 noon the person I have loved for 40 years and who gave unqualified love in return passed on to his next adventure on the other side of life as we know it.

We lived with his diagnosis of Dementia/ Alzheimer's for 12 years and I mean LIVED! He was not a victim of Alzheimer's he was a hero in life.

His last year and three quarters at The Lieberman Center were difficult for me but he was content, happy, safe, and well taken care of, how much more could I ask for?

Last Thursday he developed a cough and cold which quickly developed into Pneumonia. Midwest Hospice did a stellar job of keeping Gregory comfortable and supporting me in my understanding of the procees of dying.

His death was an easy one and through his 4 day coma, he was able to close his lips and give me one last kiss. There is magic in life ... and in death.

Thank you for your involvement in our life!

  1. Crying here in eastern Canada Michael. So sorry for the difficulties of transition. Happy for you that you had agreed so many things ahead and so were able to lessen the anguish.

Gregory will be there waiting for you with open arms when the time comes. You are so brave and good and you did everything you possibly could to make his life the best it could be until the very end.

No regrets. Only love remains. <3

  2. Cousin Michael.........You have been on my mind all day. I know this must be such a difficult time for you, but knowing that you truly did all that you could for Greg really should make you feel so good, and together you really both had such a great connection, even in the last couple of years. Letting all of us in on it was very generous of you, and I admire you for that. Both you and Greg have such giving natures. May you continue to be blessed with wonderful memories and I pray that this transition in your life will be one that you can manage without too much trouble. Bruce joins me in sending lots of love. If there is going to be any gathering or memorial service for Greg we would like to know, so please let me know. Love you. Linda
